BEWARE LEATHERJACKETS RUINING YOUR LAWN!

The UK Lawn Association reports sightings of leatherjackets appearing in lawns in parts of the UK so we are urging lawn owners to keep their eyes open for the warning signs.

Leatherjackets are the larvae of the crane fly (aka Daddy long legs) and they feed on the roots of grass plants. A heavy infestation of leatherjackets can devastate a lawn in what seems like a short time, so the earlier you spot them and get them treated, the better chance your lawn has of surviving.

What to look for? Birds are often the first indication that leatherjackets are around. You may see little holes in the lawn created by birds foraging on the lawn. If your lawn is thinning and you can pull out handfuls of grass with no effort this is also a sign of leatherjacket activity.
